THE GUIDE

Checked against v1.0.0 on October 29, 2026.

From level 50, MapleStory Classic meso farming is about Elixirs, Drake Skulls and the occasional Steely or Tobi roll. This MapleStory Classic meso farming guide for levels 50–75 compares seven monsters from Croco to Taurospear, ranks them by value per 1,000 kills, turns that into an hourly view, picks a map for each level, and covers the October 15 Sleepywood spawn cut and the Grand Launch stagger fix.

Quick summary

  • Red Drake and Wild Kargo are the best open-map earners from 60, at about 54,000 and 50,000 mesos per 1,000 kills at NPC prices (our calculation). Mana Elixirs and Drake Skulls do most of the work.
  • Tauromacis is worth the most per kill and is the hardest to farm. It's worth about 92,000 per 1,000 kills on paper, but only 2–4 spawn per map, they respawn every 1–2 minutes, and their HP went from 5,610 to 9,328 at launch (NiaMeowDB).
  • Croco is the best item value from 52 to 59, at about 27,000 (ours), with 24 on Dangerous Croko II.
  • Tobi and Steely are lottery drops. maplestory.quest's older table says 0.04%. NiaMeowDB's OSMLib reference rates say 0.01% for Tobi (Dark Stone Golem) and 0.004–0.005% for Steely (Red Drake, Tauromacis).
  • Black Crystal Ore (NPC 500) and Dark Crystal Ore (3,500) are the materials to bank. maplestory.quest says Arcforge turns Black Crystal Ore into Black Crystal for higher crafting.

Compare seven monsters from 52 to 75

Monster Level HP EXP Element Best map (its spawn points / all points, respawn)
Croco 52 3,136 146 Fire weak, ice strong Dangerous Croko II (24/54, ~7.5s)
Stone Golem 56 5,134 175 Poison strong Golem's Temple III (10/23, ~7.5s)
Dark Stone Golem 58 5,428 192 Holy weak; fire and poison strong Sleepy Dungeon V (19/88, ~7.5s, mob rate ×0.4)
Red Drake 60 5,184 211 Ice weak, fire strong Dangerous Valley II (17/30, 20s–1m)
Wild Kargo 62 5,057 231 None Wild Kargo's Area (14/31, 2m)
Tauromacis 70 9,328 337 Ice weak, lightning strong Sanctuary Entrance I and II (4 each, 1–2m)
Taurospear 75 12,535 429 Ice weak, lightning strong Sanctuary Entrance IV (5/12, 30s–2m)

Check what changed at launch

NiaMeowDB tracks each monster's Closed Online Test 2 stats against the launch build:

Monster COT2 → launch HP Other changes
Croco 3,330 → 3,136 EXP 155 → 146
Dark Stone Golem 5,681 → 5,428 EXP 197 → 192
Red Drake 5,085 → 5,184 Physical damage 395 → 306
Wild Kargo 4,445 → 5,057 October 15 patch: Wild Kargo's Area spawn points 13 → 14
Tauromacis 5,610 → 9,328 Physical defense 40 → 25
Taurospear 6,258 → 12,535 EXP 350 → 429

COT2-era advice on Tauromacis and Taurospear kill speed is out of date. They now have 66–100% more HP.

Sleepy Dungeon V was cut on October 15. The map now holds at most 20 monsters, down from 31, and its spawn rate fell from ×0.6 to ×0.4 (henesys.gg). Dark Stone Golems own only 19 of its 88 spawn points across seven monster types (NiaMeowDB), so expect a handful of Golems on screen at once, not 19. Sleepy Dungeons III and IV were thinned the same day. Our Sleepywood guide has the current layout.

Rank them by value per 1,000 kills

Our calculation: each etc, ore, elixir and star drop's OSMLib rate times its NPC price, added up and multiplied by 1,000. Equipment and basic potions are left out.

Monster NPC value per 1,000 kills (ours) Biggest contributors
Tauromacis ~92,100 Mana Elixir 7% (~70,000), Tauromacis Horn 30% (~21,000)
Red Drake ~54,300 Drake Skull 70% (~31,500), Dragon Skin 5% (~10,000), Mana Elixir 1% (~10,000)
Wild Kargo ~50,200 Mana Elixir 3% (~30,000), Wild Kargo Eye 30% (~18,600)
Taurospear ~47,700 Taurospear Horn 50% (~37,500), Power Elixir 0.3% (~7,500)
Croco ~27,300 Croco Skin 50% (~26,000)
Dark Stone Golem ~22,100 Rubble 30% (~17,400), Dark Crystal Ore 0.07% (~2,450)
Stone Golem ~18,300 Rubble 30% (~16,800), Black Crystal Ore 0.2% (~1,000)

NPC prices from maplestory.quest: Mana Elixir 1,000, Power Elixir 2,500, Elixir 500, Dragon Skin 200, Drake Skull 45, and the main etc drops at 52–75 (roughly the monster's level). Mana Elixirs also save you money if you drink them instead of selling them.

Convert to an hourly view

Kills per hour decide the real income. Red Drake's 17 spawns on one map with 20–60 second respawns beat Tauromacis's 12 spread across four maps with 1–2 minute respawns. Our estimate: a player who can one- or two-shot Red Drakes can take far more than 1,000 an hour. A Tauromacis farmer is capped at a few hundred an hour by respawns alone. On a full rotation of all four maps that's at most about 6–12 spawns a minute. For most players, Red Drake and Wild Kargo earn more per hour.

Know the lottery drops

Item Monster OSMLib rate maplestory.quest older table NPC price Expected NPC value per 1,000 kills (OSMLib, ours)
Tobi Throwing Stars Dark Stone Golem 0.01% 0.04% (Wild Kargo and Dark Stone Golem) 2,500 ~250
Steely Throwing Knives Red Drake 0.004% 0.04% 10,000 ~400
Steely Throwing Knives Tauromacis 0.005% 0.04% 10,000 ~500
Dark Crystal Ore Dark Stone Golem 0.07% — 3,500 ~2,450
Black Crystal Ore Taurospear, Kargo, Dark Stone Golem, Stone Golem 0.2–0.5% — 500 ~1,000–2,500

maplestory.quest cites a community discussion that guessed about 500k mesos for an early Steely. It says not to use that as an official price, since "rare stars may initially be cheap in nominal mesos because nobody has mesos yet." Even at 500k, a 0.004% drop is worth about 20,000 mesos per 1,000 Red Drakes (our math). That's less than the Drake Skulls.

Bank the right materials

  • Black Crystal Ore: maplestory.quest ranks it among the most reliable higher-level materials to bank, because Arcforge turns it into Black Crystal for higher crafting. See our crafting guide.
  • Dark Crystal Ore: 3,500 at an NPC (maplestory.quest). Check for player demand before you sell.
  • Dragon Skin (Red Drake, 5%): maplestory.quest says Jane's Final Challenge needs 20 Dragon Skins and can reward Gloves Attack or Magic Attack scrolls. It suggests listing them in stacks of 20. Our 45–50 guide covers regular Drakes.
  • Elixirs: keep enough for your own bossing. Mana Elixirs sell for 1,000 each at an NPC (maplestory.quest).

Pick a map by level

Compare farming plans

Plan NPC mesos per 1,000 kills (ours) Density Best for
Red Drake at Dangerous Valley II ~54,300 17, medium respawn Ice Wizards and strong single-target jobs
Wild Kargo at Wild Kargo's Area ~50,200 14, 2-minute respawn Any job; Mana Elixir stockpiling
Croco at Dangerous Croko II ~27,300 24, fast respawn 52–58, fire attackers
Dark Stone Golem at Sleepy Dungeon V ~22,100 plus a Tobi roll 19 of 88 points; map capped at 20 since Oct 15 Clerics (Holy)
Tauromacis at Sanctuary Entrance ~92,100 on paper 2–4 per map, slow Steely hunters with ice skills
Stone Golem at Golem's Temple ~18,300 7–10 per map Black Crystal Ore

Match the monster to your job

Job Best pick Why (source)
Ice/Lightning Wizard Red Drake, Tauromacis Both are ice weak (NiaMeowDB)
Fire/Poison Wizard Croco Fire weak. Golems resist poison, and Red Drake resists fire
Cleric Dark Stone Golem Holy weak
Assassin Dark Stone Golem, Red Drake Tobi and Steely rolls (NiaMeowDB; maplestory.quest). See our Assassin guide
Warrior, Bowman, Bandit Wild Kargo No elemental affinity

Alts and returning players

  • Returning players: Tauromacis and Taurospear aren't the monsters you remember. NiaMeowDB shows 9,328 and 12,535 HP at launch, up from COT2's 5,610 and 6,258.
  • Alts: a level 60 main farming Red Drakes and Wild Kargos makes enough Mana Elixirs to supply a Magician alt. Character-to-character transfers within your account use storage (our suggestion).
  • Characters who leveled fast: reaching 60 early doesn't make farming faster if your weapon can't kill a 5,000-HP Drake quickly. Check your damage first. See the earlier 45–50 farming guide and the Free Market guide.

What changed for 50–75 meso farming at Grand Launch

Nexon's Grand Launch maintenance notes for v1.0.0 (October 21, 2026) and the October 15 patch changed this band in five ways:

Change Date Effect
Stagger threshold corrected on Red Drake and Wild Kargo (and Copper Drake, Drake, Tortie) Oct 21 Weak hits no longer make them flinch, so they reach you more often
Field boss respawns randomized Oct 21 Affects Zombie Mushmom (Lv 55) and Jr. Balrog runs alongside this band
Excavation Site added Oct 21 Skeleton Soldier (57), Officer Skeleton (63) and Commander Skeleton (73) give a new 57–73 option
Sleepy Dungeon V cut to 20 monsters, rate ×0.4 Oct 15 Fewer Dark Stone Golems at once (henesys.gg)
Sanctuary Entrance II rebuilt lower; Wild Kargo's Area 13 → 14 spawn points Oct 15 Small changes to the Tauromacis and Kargo maps (henesys.gg)

Bosses can no longer be knocked back by some skills since October 15 (Nexon). The level cap is still 100, and Orbis, El Nath and 3rd job remain closed, so these Victoria Island maps are still the top of the farming curve. New accounts can't trade until 24 hours after a character reaches level 15, and the Debt System (October 22) blocks trading on accounts tied to real-money trading (Nexon). The MapleStory Classic hub lists every guide for the game.

FAQ

What's the best meso farm at level 60 in MapleStory Classic? Red Drake at Dangerous Valley II or Wild Kargo at Wild Kargo's Area. That's about 50,000–54,000 mesos per 1,000 kills at NPC prices, by our math.

Where do Steely Throwing Knives drop? Red Drake (0.004%) and Tauromacis (0.005%), using OSMLib reference rates on NiaMeowDB. maplestory.quest's older table says 0.04%.

Where do Tobi Throwing Stars drop? Dark Stone Golem has Tobi at 0.01% on NiaMeowDB's reference list. maplestory.quest also names Wild Kargo, but NiaMeowDB's list for it has no Tobi.

Is Tauromacis worth farming? Only if you can farm all four Sanctuary Entrance maps. Each holds 2–4, they respawn every 1–2 minutes, and HP rose to 9,328 at launch (NiaMeowDB).

What does Black Crystal Ore sell for? 500 mesos at an NPC (maplestory.quest). Keep it for crafting or players, since Arcforge turns it into Black Crystal.

Do Mana Elixirs sell well? They sell for 1,000 mesos each at an NPC (maplestory.quest). Wild Kargo drops them at 3% and Tauromacis at 7% (reference rates).

Is Sleepy Dungeon V still good for Dark Stone Golems? Less than before. The October 15 patch cut the map to 20 monsters at once and its spawn rate to ×0.4, and Golems are only 19 of its 88 spawn points (henesys.gg, NiaMeowDB).
