MapleStory Classic Meso Farming 45–50: Drops, Drop Rates, Maps
MapleStory Classic meso farming for levels 45–50: Drake, Tortie, Wraith, Clang and Mummydog drops, value per 1,000 kills, best maps and v1.0.0 changes.

In this guide 15 sections
Checked against v1.0.0 on October 29, 2026.
Levels 45 to 50 are where MapleStory Classic meso farming starts to pay properly, because Drakes, Torties and Wraiths drop etc items worth 45 to 49 mesos each at an NPC. This MapleStory Classic meso farming guide for levels 45–50 compares the five main monsters plus the new Mummydog, estimates item value per 1,000 kills, picks a map for mesos or EXP, and covers the Grand Launch stagger fix that changes how Drakes fight back.
Quick summary
- Nexon hasn't published drop rates. NiaMeowDB shows OSMLib reference rates and says they "may not represent MapleStory Classic World rates." The MapleClassic Wiki's drop data is player observations. Treat every rate here as a reference.
- Five monsters cover levels 45–50: Copper Drake (45), Tortie (46), Wraith (48), Clang (49) and Drake (50), per NiaMeowDB and the wiki.
- For NPC value, Drakes lead. With reference rates and wiki NPC prices, our calculation gives about 40,700 mesos per 1,000 Drake kills from items alone, against about 20,600 for Clangs. Most of that comes from Drake Skulls and Dragon Skin.
- For EXP, Wraiths lead. NiaMeowDB ranks the Kerning City Subway Wraith maps first for 46–50, and planet-helper ranks Hot Sand (Torties) first. You trade some item value for EXP.
- Ores are worth more on the Free Market. maplestory-classic.com's October 15 data shows Iron Ore at about 500 mesos there, while the wiki lists its NPC price at 20. Sell monster parts to NPCs and ores to players.
Know how much to trust drop rates
| Data | What it is | Trust | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Item lists | MSEA reference drops; NiaMeowDB says Classic World "appears to draw from the pre-Big-Bang MapleSEA drop tables" | Medium; confirm in game | NiaMeowDB |
| Drop rates | OSMLib reference values | Low to medium; NiaMeowDB says they may not match Classic World | NiaMeowDB |
| Observed rates | Player reports, sometimes from small samples | Medium; improves over time | MapleClassic Wiki (drop section note) |
| NPC sell prices | Item data | High | MapleClassic Wiki |
| Free Market prices | Player sales | High for the date, changes daily | maplestory-classic.com |
That's why both databases collect player reports: NiaMeowDB has a Submit Drops page and a community-confirmed drop list on each monster, and the wiki has a "Report an item drop" button. Until those samples grow, nobody outside Nexon has confirmed rates.
Compare the five monsters
| Monster | Lvl | HP | EXP | Weakness | ACC to never miss at your level (NiaMeowDB) | Main maps (spawns) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Copper Drake | 45 | 2,595 | 107 | Ice (strong vs fire) | 92 at Lv 45, 110 at Lv 40 | East Rocky Mountain VII (22), Dangerous Valley (13) |
| Tortie | 46 | 2,671 | 111 | None | 82 at Lv 46, 98 at Lv 41 | Hot Sand (25), Lorang Lorang Lorang (6) |
| Wraith | 48 | 2,350 | 122 | Holy | 104 at Lv 48, 125 at Lv 43 | Subway Line 2 <Area 3> (68), Line 1 <Area 4> (59), Line 2 <Area 2> (57) |
| Clang | 49 | 2,899 | 127 | Lightning | 98 at Lv 49, 117 at Lv 44 | Lorang and Clang (29), Clang and Lorang (17), Hot Sand (13) |
| Drake | 50 | 3,218 | 133 | None (strong vs fire and ice) | 89 at Lv 50, 106 at Lv 45 | Drake's Meal Table (23), The Tunnel That Lost Light I (20), Drake Hunting Ground (18) |
Grand Launch added a sixth option: the Mummydog (Lv 47, 2,513 HP, 117 EXP, Holy weak), which spawns in the Excavation Site's Remains I–III, with 15 in Tomb III at a ×1.4 mob rate (NiaMeowDB). Its reference drop list has Dirty Bandage, Elixirs and 0.3% Adamantium and Emerald Ore, but no reference rate for the bandage, so we leave it out of the value table. Our Excavation Site guide covers the maps.
NiaMeowDB lists every one of these at lower HP than in the second closed test. Tortie went from 2,857 to 2,671 HP, for example, so older test-era kill counts overstate the work. For hit-rate math, see our accuracy guide. For element choices, see our elements guide.
Check what each monster drops
Reference rates are OSMLib values shown by NiaMeowDB. NPC prices are from the MapleClassic Wiki.
| Monster | Main etc drop (ref rate, NPC price) | Valuable extras (ref rate, NPC price) | Notable rare drops (ref rate) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Copper Drake | Drake Skull (50%, 45) | Dragon Skin (3%, 200), Elixir (0.1%, 500), Black Crystal Ore (0.09%, 500) | Orihalcon Ore 0.2%, The Summoning Rock 0.08% |
| Tortie | Tortie Shell (50%, 46) | Amethyst Ore (0.2%, 200), Elixir (0.1%, 500) | Gloves Attack Scroll: Greater 0.003% |
| Wraith | Medicine With Weird Vibes (40%, 48) | Dark Crystal Ore (0.08%, 3,500), Elixir (0.1%, 500) | Red Whip 0.005% |
| Clang | Clang Claw (40%, 49) | Adamantium Ore (0.3%, 60), Elixir (0.1%, 500) | One-Handed Blunt Weapon Attack Scroll: Intermediate 0.003% |
| Drake | Drake Skull (60%, 45) | Dragon Skin (5%, 200), Drake's Blood (0.7%, 300), White Potion (2%, 35) | Diamond Ore 0.1%, Kumbi Throwing Stars 0.03% |
Each monster also has a long list of equipment at about 0.005–0.01% (1 in 10,000 to 1 in 20,000) in the reference data. Don't plan income around those drops.
Calculate item value per 1,000 kills
Our calculation: the reference rate times the wiki NPC price for each listed drop with a known price, summed per kill and multiplied by 1,000. Meso drops and equipment aren't included. Drake's Meat is left out because we didn't find its NPC price. These are estimates built on unconfirmed rates.
| Monster | NPC value per 1,000 kills (ours) | Biggest contributor |
|---|---|---|
| Drake | ~40,700 | Drake Skull (~27,000), Dragon Skin (~10,000) |
| Copper Drake | ~30,200 | Drake Skull (~22,500), Dragon Skin (~6,000) |
| Tortie | ~24,600 | Tortie Shell (~23,000) |
| Wraith | ~23,200 | Medicine With Weird Vibes (~19,200), Dark Crystal Ore (~2,800) |
| Clang | ~20,600 | Clang Claw (~19,600) |
Three takeaways:
- Drakes are the item-value pick because Drake Skull drops at 60% and Dragon Skin at 5% in the reference data.
- Wraiths carry jackpot value. Most of their extra worth is the 0.08% Dark Crystal Ore at 3,500 mesos to an NPC.
- The differences are small next to EXP. Wraith maps hold far more spawns (up to 68), so total income per hour can still favor them (see the map table below).
Sell ores to players, monster parts to NPCs
| Item | NPC price (wiki) | Free Market median, Oct 15 (maplestory-classic.com) | Sell where |
|---|---|---|---|
| Iron Ore | 20 | 500 | Free Market |
| Mithril Ore | 40 | 350 | Free Market |
| Garnet Ore | 40 | 500 (down 52% since launch) | Free Market, but the price is falling |
| Aquamarine Ore | 40 | 500 | Free Market |
| Amethyst Ore | 200 | 299 | Either; small gap |
| Diamond Ore | 240 | 450 | Free Market |
| Gold Ore | 60 | 200 | Free Market |
| Adamantium Ore | 60 | 150 | Free Market |
| Orihalcon Ore | 100 | 139 | Either |
| Drake Skull, Tortie Shell, Clang Claw, Medicine With Weird Vibes | 45–49 | Not in the tracker's top listings | NPC, unless a crafter wants them |
Ores feed crafting, which is why players pay more than NPCs (see our crafting guide). For listing tips, read our Free Market guide. Iron Ore had the most recorded sales on the tracker, 4,173 by October 15, so it sells fast.
Pick a map for mesos or EXP
| Map | Monster | Why | Trade-off | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kerning City Subway Line 2 <Area 2> | Wraith, Jr. Wraith | Highest max EXP/hr of any Victoria Island map in NiaMeowDB's list (about 3.49M) | 6 portals to the potion shop; mixed spawns | NiaMeowDB |
| Line 2 <Area 3> | Wraith only (68 spawns) | Every kill on-level; Lightning mages "will love the layout" | 7 portals to the shop | NiaMeowDB, planet-helper |
| Hot Sand | Tortie (25), Clang (13) | planet-helper's top 46–50 pick: 22 up at once, 2,562 EXP per clear, 4 portals to the shop | Lower item value | planet-helper |
| Drake's Meal Table / Drake Hunting Ground | Drake | Best item value | NiaMeowDB lists a 0.6x mob rate on Drake's Meal Table, and the October 15 patch moved some of its spawn points (henesys.gg) | NiaMeowDB; see our Sleepywood guide |
| Dangerous Valley | Copper Drake, Fire Boar | 3 portals to Perion's shop | About 947K max EXP/hr in NiaMeowDB's list | NiaMeowDB; see our Burnt Land and Dangerous Valley guide |
| Remains III (Excavation Site) | Mummydog | Holy weak; new at Grand Launch, so less crowded | No reference rate for its main drop | NiaMeowDB |
| Lorang and Clang | Clang (29) | Lightning weakness | Lowest item value of the five | NiaMeowDB |
Wraith is undead and weak to holy, so Clerics do well in the subway (see our Cleric guide). Our Kerning Subway guide compares every Wraith map, and Hot Sand is covered in our Florina Beach guide. If the subway is crowded or botted, see our bot-free training guide.
Stack quests on the same kills
NiaMeowDB lists these kill quests on the same monsters. Taking them before you farm turns the same kills into extra rewards:
| Quest | Level | Kills | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jane's First Challenge | 44+ | 50 Copper Drakes, 50 Wraiths | NiaMeowDB (Copper Drake and Wraith pages) |
| Jane's Second Challenge | 44+ | 50 Wraiths | NiaMeowDB |
| Jane's Final Challenge | 44+ | 50 Drakes | NiaMeowDB |
| Third Material Delivery for Building a New House | 41+ | 50 Copper Drakes | NiaMeowDB |
| Last Material Delivery for Building a New House | 41+ | 50 Drakes | NiaMeowDB |
| A Quiet Line of Work (Citizenship) | 47+ | 50 Wraiths | NiaMeowDB |
Jane's Final Challenge rewards a random Gloves Attack or Magic Attack scroll, Intermediate or Greater (MapleStory Quest), which is worth far more than the mesos from the kills. Our Lith Harbor guide lists everything Jane asks for.
Cut your costs while farming
- Restock trips cost time. planet-helper and NiaMeowDB count portals to the nearest shop: 3–4 for Hot Sand and Dangerous Valley, 6–7 for the subway Wraith maps.
- Keep your Elixirs. All five monsters can drop them (0.1% reference). They sell to NPCs for 500, and Max and Raymond sell them for 3,000 (wiki).
- Carry inventory space. Etc drops at 40–60% fill slots fast. See our inventory guide.
- Shade is nearby. If you're 48+, the Shade boss is on the same level band. See our Shade guide.
Compare farming plans
| Plan | Best for | Item value | EXP | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Drake farming | Mesos first | Highest (~40,700 per 1,000 kills, ours) | Lower; slower maps | Good for a 50 who wants gear money |
| Subway Wraiths | EXP first with some jackpot value | ~23,200 | Highest | Crowding and bot reports in the subway |
| Hot Sand | Balanced, short restocks | ~24,600 (Tortie) | High (planet-helper) | Easy to change channel |
| Copper Drakes at Dangerous Valley | Level 45 meso start | ~30,200 | Moderate | Closest shop |
For the wider picture of income sources, see our mesos guide.
Alts and returning players
- Alts: A level 45–50 alt on Drakes funds scrolls for your main.
- Returning players: Old MapleSEA drop lists look right because Classic World "appears to draw from" them (NiaMeowDB), but the rates aren't confirmed. Don't trust old drop-rate memories.
- Founder's Access players: The October 15 Free Market prices reflect two weeks of Founder's Access trading, when only Founder's Package holders could play. Check NiaMeowDB's Free Market tracker for current prices before you list.
- Next band: from 50, our 50–75 meso farming guide moves on to Red Drakes, Wild Kargos and Tauromacis. The band before this one is in our 30–45 meso farming guide.

What changed for 45–50 meso farming at Grand Launch
Nexon's Grand Launch maintenance notes for v1.0.0 (October 21, 2026) touch this band more than any other:
| Change | Effect on levels 45–50 |
|---|---|
| Stagger threshold corrected on Copper Drake, Tortie, Drake, Red Drake and Wild Kargo | It had been set too low by mistake. Weak hits no longer make these monsters flinch, so plan on taking more touch damage from Drakes and Torties |
| Final Attack lasts 60 seconds, not 30 | Warriors and Bowmen keep the extra hits up longer between triggers |
| Excavation Site added | Mummydog (Lv 47, Holy weak) and Skeledog (Lv 44) as new options |
| Windia expanded to 40 channels | Easier to find an empty Wraith or Drake map |
| New-account trade lock; Debt System from October 22 | New accounts sell to NPCs until 24 hours after a character reaches Lv 15; accounts tied to real-money trading can't trade until their debt is repaid |
The October 15 patch also moved spawn points on Drake's Meal Table and rebuilt Sanctuary Entrance II lower (henesys.gg). Crafting still stops at craft level 8, so ore demand still comes from levels 1–8 recipes. The MapleStory Classic hub lists every guide for the game.
