Swords are the Warrior's first weapon and stay an option for Fighters and Pages all the way to 70. MapleStory Classic World has 20 one-handed and 11 two-handed swords, including two umbrellas, a whip and a baseball bat that any job can swing. This MapleStory Classic sword guide lists all 31 with attack, speed, STR and DEX needs, price and source. It covers the shops, the four sword recipes, the Warrior skills that care about swords, one-handed vs two-handed math on the full damage formula, scrolls and an upgrade path, for the live Grand Launch game.
Quick summary
- 31 swords: 20 one-handed and 11 two-handed, all with 7 upgrade slots. One-handed swords are Fast (4) or (5). Two-handed swords are Fast (5) to 40 and Normal (6) from Lv 50 (MapleStory Quest, Public Release client).
- River in Perion sells eight swords at launch, from the 3,000-meso Long Sword to the 16,500-meso Broadsword, up to level 25 (NiaMeowDB launch prices).
- Only four swords have recipes: Saw (Weaponcrafting 2), Wooden Sword (Woodcrafting 2), Wooden Baseball Bat (Woodcrafting 3) and Aluminum Baseball Bat (Weaponcrafting 6). Nothing past level 30 is craftable (MapleStory Quest).
- Two-handed swords deal about 24–28% more, by our math on the full damage formula with henesys.gg's 2.5 vs 1.8 multipliers. One-handed swords keep a shield.
- Swords any job can use include the Yellow Umbrella (+52 magic attack) and the Red Whip (+15 speed). Grand Launch reworked the Pumpkin Basket into a level 10 sword with +27 attack and +3 speed, the Halloween quest reward until November 18 (NiaMeowDB, henesys.gg).

Craft the four sword recipes
| Sword | Craft | Character level | Ingredients | Fee |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wooden Sword | Woodcrafting 2 | 10 | 4 Processed Wood | 2,500 |
| Saw | Weaponcrafting 2 | 15 | 2 Bronze Ingots, 2 Processed Wood, 6 Screws | 2,500 |
| Wooden Baseball Bat | Woodcrafting 3 | 15 | 5 Processed Wood | 3,500 |
| Aluminum Baseball Bat | Weaponcrafting 6 | 30 | 3 Iron Ingots, 3 Mithril Ingots, 18 Screws | 6,500 |
Recipes come from MapleStory Quest, and each fee equals the sword's NPC sell price. The Saw (36 attack at 15) beats River's Sabre (32) and has no DEX need. See our Weaponcrafting and Woodcrafting guides.
Our math on inputs: ingots take 5 ore each, and one Screw craft makes 10 Screws (our Weaponcrafting guide). An Aluminum Baseball Bat takes 15 Iron Ore, 15 Mithril Ore and 2 Screw crafts.
Settle one-handed vs two-handed
The physical formula from henesys.gg and NiaMeowDB (our damage formula guide) is:
- Max = skill % × weapon attack × (1 + (STR × multiplier + DEX + 2 × attack power) ÷ 100)
Henesys.gg gives one-handed swords a 1.8 multiplier and two-handed swords 2.5, the same for swings and stabs. NiaMeowDB's speed ladder gives 83 attacks a minute at Fast (4), 80 at Fast (5) and 74 at Normal (6) (our attack speed guide).
Our math (max damage × attacks a minute, typical Warrior stats, no attack power):
| Level | Stats | One-handed | Two-handed | Two-handed lead |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 30 | 125 STR, 30 DEX | Gladius: 13,849 | Aluminum Baseball Bat: 17,700 | +27.8% |
| 30 | 125 STR, 30 DEX | Gladius: 13,849 | Scimitar: 17,355 | +25.3% |
| 40 | 170 STR, 40 DEX | Traus: 21,408 | Zard: 27,120 | +26.7% |
| 50 | 220 STR, 50 DEX | Jeweled Katar: 30,576 | Lion's Fang: 37,814 | +23.7% |
| 70 | 300 STR, 70 DEX | Red Katana: 51,269 | Doombringer: 63,314 | +23.5% |
At 30, the craftable Aluminum Baseball Bat beats the Scimitar: its Fast (5) speed outweighs 3 less attack. A one-handed sword lets you hold a shield. That's worth it if you take too much damage or want a Page's shield skills (our Page guide).
Swords vs axes and blunts: NiaMeowDB gives two-handed axes and blunts a 3 / 2 swing-stab multiplier (about 2.6 average) against the sword's 2.5. Planet-helper steers Fighters to axes because those have crafted lines past 30 (our Fighter guide). Scrolls don't tip it either way: two-handed sword and two-handed blunt attack scrolls share their quest sources, with a Greater as a pick reward from Blackbull's house quest or Taking Out the Alligators 1 and an Intermediate as a random Jane and the Mushroom reward (henesys.gg).
Sword skills for Fighters and Pages
Three Warrior skills decide how much a sword is worth to you, per henesys.gg's update notes:
| Skill | What it does with a sword | Why it matters for the pick |
|---|---|---|
| Sword Mastery (Fighter, Page) | Accuracy +20 at max level, replacing the old Weapon Def bonus | Helps a sword user hit higher-level drakes and skeletons; axes and blunts get their own mastery |
| Final Attack: Sword | Attack skills have a 25% chance to enable it, then you cast it; the Fighter version hits up to 3 enemies for 200% | Once enabled it stays usable for 60 seconds instead of 30 |
| Slash Blast | Hits up to 6 enemies, costing 16 HP and 14 MP at max level | Uses your weapon's swing and stab, so the 1.8 vs 2.5 multiplier gap above applies |
Power Strike and Slash Blast use the same swing and stab animations as a normal attack, and NiaMeowDB splits a sword's normal attack 60% swing, 40% stab. Swords swing and stab with the same multiplier, so a sword's damage doesn't depend on which animation comes up. Our accuracy guide shows how far +20 Accuracy goes against drakes.
Example: a level 35 Fighter choosing between the Lionheart (two-handed sword) and an axe gets Accuracy from Sword Mastery only with the sword and the axe's mastery bonus only with the axe. Pick the weapon type first, then put skill points into the matching mastery and Final Attack. The axes guide and the blunt weapons guide list the alternatives.
Use the all-job swords
| Sword | Why it matters (MapleStory Quest; our assessment) |
|---|---|
| Saw | 36 attack at 15 with only 20 STR; craftable at Weaponcrafting 2 |
| Wooden Baseball Bat | Two-handed with 25 STR, no job lock; craftable at Woodcrafting 3 |
| Aluminum Baseball Bat | 50 attack at 30, no DEX need and no job lock |
| Sky Blue Umbrella | +12 magic attack, sold by Flora for 14,700 |
| Red Whip | +15 speed at 35, for any job |
| Yellow Umbrella | +52 magic attack at 40, no stat needs |
The Pumpkin Basket is the newest all-job sword. Malady in Henesys and Kerning City wants 100 Halloween Candies from monsters level 10 and up, then three candy deliveries, and pays out the Pumpkin Basket: level 10, +27 attack, +3 speed, 7 slots, Fast (4) (henesys.gg; NiaMeowDB's item page). It matches the Long Sword's attack with no STR need and adds speed, so a fresh Warrior can skip River's first two swords. The event runs until November 18; see our Halloween event guide.
Planet-helper's all-INT Magician comparison uses the Yellow Umbrella in place of a wand. The Fairy Wand at the same level has 69 magic attack, so the umbrella trails it (our wands and staves guide).
Scroll your sword
| Scroll | Success | Effect | Risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sword Attack Scroll: Lesser | 100% | +1 attack | None |
| Intermediate | 60% | +2 | None |
| Greater | 10% | +4 | None |
| Chaos | 10% | +5 | 50% to destroy |
Odds come from MapleStory Quest's sword pages. El Moth sells One-Handed Sword Lessers for 30,000 mesos and Two-handed Sword Lessers for 60,000 (NiaMeowDB). Our math: seven Lessers add +7 attack for 210,000 mesos on a one-handed sword or 420,000 on a two-handed one. On a Zard, 67 attack instead of 60 is about 12% more damage. Our scrolling guide covers the tiers.
Follow an upgrade path
| Level | Two-handed path | One-handed path | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 | Wooden Sword | Long Sword | River or Manny |
| 15 | Wooden Baseball Bat | Saw | Woodcrafting 3 / Weaponcrafting 2 |
| 20 | Two-Handed Sword | Viking Sword | River |
| 25 | Broadsword | Eloon | River |
| 30 | Aluminum Baseball Bat | Gladius | Weaponcrafting 6 / drop or trade |
| 35 | Lionheart | Cutlus | Drops or trade |
| 40 | Zard | Traus | Trade |
| 50+ | Lion's Fang, Sparta, Doombringer | Jeweled Katar, Neocora, Red Katana | Drops |
Our math on River: buying the Two-Handed Sword and Broadsword costs 30,000 mesos. The level 10–25 one-handed path from River (Long Sword, Viking Sword, Eloon) costs 27,000, or 24,000 if you craft the Saw at 15 and skip the Sabre. New Warriors can start with our Warrior guide 1–30, and Warriors holding a level 70 sword can plan their maps with the training guide 70-100.
Handle alts and returning players
- Returning players: no launch shop sells the level 30 Gladius or Scimitar, so craft the Aluminum Baseball Bat or trade (NiaMeowDB).
- Non-Warrior alts: the Red Whip's +15 speed and the Aluminum Baseball Bat work on any job (MapleStory Quest).
- Crafters: the Saw and Aluminum Baseball Bat are the only crafted swords, and both sell to an NPC for their fee.
- Rushing a Warrior: faster levels won't level Weaponcrafting, and check your DEX against the next sword. Spearmen can compare our spears and polearms guide, and Pages who want a shield should read the shields guide.

What changed for swords at Grand Launch
Grand Launch (v1.0.0, October 21, 2026) kept every sword's shop, recipe and stats above except one, and crafting still stops at craft level 8. The changes that matter to sword users, per Nexon's Grand Launch maintenance notes and NiaMeowDB's patch history:
- Final Attack lasts 60 seconds instead of 30 for every Warrior version, Sword included.
- Iron Body and Improved HP Recovery were buffed: Iron Body now gives +20% to +40% Weapon Def (was +5% to +25%), and HP potions heal 20% to 50% more (was 5% to 20%).
- The Pumpkin Basket was reworked from +24 attack, +8 speed and +1 to every stat to +27 attack and +3 speed, and now needs level 10.
- Drakes stagger properly again: the minimum damage to stagger Copper Drakes, Drakes and Red Drakes had been set too low and was corrected.
Orbis, El Nath and third job remain closed and the level cap is 100, so the level 70 Red Katana and Doombringer are still the top swords. Our patch notes tracker lists every update. The MapleStory Classic hub gathers every guide and service for the game.
